What is CLI Localisation?
In September 2011, we commissioned independent research amongst 2,000 UK consumers to understand how they would respond to calls from certain number types. Along with increases of 34% in contact rates experienced by one of our customers, the results of this survey provide a compelling justification for CLI localisation:
- 71% said they were either UNLIKELY TO or WOULD NOT answer a call from a withheld or blocked number.
- 66% responded in the same way for calls from 08 numbers.
- 75% said they were either LIKELY TO or WOULD answer a call from a LOCAL geographic number.
Dial Sure solves the problem by automatically displaying a local number, which will be familiar to the person you’re calling. If you’re trying to reach somebody in Manchester, an 0161 number is presented. If, on the other hand, you're calling someone in Aberdeen, the first five digits of your CLI will be 01224.
For calls to mobile phones too
And CLI Localisation isn't just for calls to landlines. By using Dial Sure, CLIs may be localised for calls made to mobiles as well. What's more, Dial Sure delivers any returned calls directly to the contact centre or the team best placed to handle them.

Dial Sure allows call centres to target prospects and customers much more effectively by displaying the CLI of a town or city close to each called party on a per-call basis. This results not only in increased contact rates for the call centre or campaign, but also a sense for the call recipient that the caller is local to them. In turn, this improves customer confidence when compared to the experience of receiving a call from either a withheld number or an unfamiliar non-geographic number - which is unlikely to be answered.
And if customers miss your agents' calls...
Calls returned to the localised outbound CLI (ie, from a missed calls list or by dialing 1471) are delivered exactly as the call centre or campaign dictates - again on a per-call basis. Options for returned calls range from simple missed call announcements and voicemail boxes to sophisticated routing either directly back to nominated agents, individual departments or via IVR menus, hunt-groups or time of day schedules - all of which are available through the Nexbridge call management platform.
Through the use of our own Ofcom-allocated geographic number ranges - which cover virtually all of the UK's geographic exchange areas - each call centre (or if more granularity is required, each campaign) is allocated geographic numbers in the areas within which the call centre or campaign wishes to have a virtual presence.
Another significant, differentiating feature of Dial Sure is its extensive, detailed and up-to-date postcode database, designed to optimize call-flow and allow automation even for SMEs who may have less complete customer/prospect data than contact centres but which still wish to benefit from CLI localisation. The underlying power and inherent quality of Dial Sure derives directly from the granularity of the database to match postcodes down to district and street level with CLI down to local branch exchange level – and to therefore match mobile numbers to a local CLI.
